For the Press

NYC Burning Man Decompression is, first and foremost, a way for participants of the Burning Man festival to gather together in New York to experience the ethos of Black Rock City. If you have never been to the event, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with the ideas behind Decompression as well as the 10 Principles of Burning Man.

Decompression is a private event.  Written permission is required to use any image or video from the event commercially or publicly; no public use of any image may be made without written consent from Decompression.  In addition, no images taken at Decompression may be used as stock photos.

If you would like to shoot film or video (or digital images) as press or for public use, you must reach prior agreement with Decompression, and any image use must be approved by Decompression organizers in writing post-event. If you would like to shoot film or video as press at the event, please contact us at info@nycdecompression.org. You may use the same email address to contact us post-event for approval to use/publish images. If you are shooting film or video for personal use only (ie: to show your friends and family), you do not need to register as press.

One of the abiding principles of Burning Man and the New York City Decompression is that participants do not interfere with the immediate experience of other participants. As a member of the media, you are expected to be respectful and comport yourself accordingly. If you do, your coverage will be far more authentic and meaningful.

You should always ask for permission before photographing or filming any participant. If you are planning to use this imagery to show anyone other than your friends and family, you should obtain a written release from anyone you photograph, film, or otherwise record. If any participant asks you to stop filming, you must stop immediately. If you continue to photograph or film, you face the possibility of being escorted from the event.

Please note there are no press passes or complimentary tickets to the event for press. All media must purchase a ticket to the event and no tickets will be sold at the door. Please visit our ticket page for necessary information.
